Park Resident Receives Eagle Scout Rank Prospect Park resident and
Interboro High School Student Andreas Moshovis recently received the rank of
Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. The ceremony, which was held
October 21, 2001, was attended by Prospect Park Mayor Donald Cook, State
Representative Ronald Raymond, and Interboro High School Principle Dr. Michael
Pladus. The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a
special significance, not only in Scouting, but also as he enters higher
education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a
performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained
over the years. Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout Troop earns Eagle
Scout Rank; only about 4 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents
more than 1 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1911.
Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting - citizenship, training, character
development, and personal fitness - remain important for all Scouts, whether or
not they attain the Eagle Scout rank. Some notable people who have earned
the rank of Eagle Scout include: Pictured below are students at St. Gabriel's School who raised funds for Hands Helping Hands to benefit NYC victims. Each hand pictured represents a donation of $1.00 to the fund. Pictured above are students displaying their "hands" they used to raise money. Pictured above are the student with the
American Flag displayed in the window of their school. IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING PARKING AROUND THE PROSPECT PARK SCHOOLS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, THE PROSPECT PARK POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS RECEIVED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PARKING OF VEHICLES AROUND THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING WHICH HOUSES KINDERGARTEN CLASSES FOR THE DISTRICT. OVER TIME PROSPECT PARK BOROUGH HAS PLACED PARKING RESTRICTIONS WITHIN THE AREA FOR ONE PURPOSE, THE PROTECTION OF OUR CHILDREN. MEMBERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE WARNED PARENTS MANY TIMES TO PARK THEIR VEHICLES LEGALLY WHILE PICKING UP OR DROPPING OFF THEIR CHILD, ONLY TO SEE THE SAME PARENTS PARK ILLEGALLY TIME AFTER TIME. IT IS A SMALL NUMBER OF PARENTS / RELATIVES THAT CONTINUES TO DISREGARD THE PARKING REGULATIONS. MOST PARENTS PARK LEGALLY, THEN WALK TO THE FRONT DOOR TO DROP OFF OR PICK-UP THEIR CHILD. THEREFORE, BEGINNING ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2001, POLICE OFFICERS WILL BE ASSIGNED TO THESE LOCATIONS WITH STRICT ORDERS TO ISSUE PARKING VIOLATIONS TO ANYONE THAT HAS STOPPED THEIR CAR ILLEGALLY TO PICK-UP OR DROP OFF THEIR CHILD. TO THE PARENTS THAT OBEY THE PARKING RESTRICTIONS I SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION. TO THOSE WHO MUST PARK ILLEGALLY I SAY THAT THIS WILL BE THE LAST WARNING. ILLEGALLY PARKED MEANS A VEHICLE STOPPED IN A PROHIBITED AREA, OCCUPIED OR
UNOCCUPIED. SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL - THE MARK OF FUTURE LEADERS Philadelphia, PA ( May 17, 2001 ) Traffic has increased and there are more schools, but through it all, one thing has been constant - the AAA School Safety Patrol. Since in the early 1920s by AAA, the School Safety Patrol spread quickly to communities and schools nationwide. Currently, there are more than 500,000 School Safety Patrols protecting millions of youngsters in communities across the country. Many School Safety Patrols go on to prominent careers. Past members include Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter; Olympic Gold-Medal athletes Bruce Jenner, Lynette Woodard, and Eric Heiden; former Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca; and baseball legends Tom Seaver and Joe Garagiola. Three current members of the U.S. Supreme Court were patrols, as well as 21 astronauts. “A 10, 11, or 12-year-old who has the responsibility and character necessary to be willing to risk his or her life to protect a fellow classmate is indicative of the integrity to become a leader of industry, athletics, and even the country,” said Norman Grimm, AAA Mid-Atlantic’s director of traffic safety. “School Safety Patrol members are the cream of the crop.” AAA Mod-Atlantic, a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the third largest AAA-affiliated automobile club in North America. Serving 3.3 million members in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia, AAA Mid-Atlantic provides automotive, travel, financial and insurance services to its members, and offers personalized service through its branch offices. CONGRATULATIONS On May 17, 2001 eight School Safety Patrol members, who showed extraordinary leadership and academic characteristics, in addition to being dependable, prompt, neat and industriousness, while protecting their fellow students as they travel to and from school, were presented with the 2001 AAA Mid-Atlantic Outstanding School Safety Award at the Adams Mark Hotel, Philadelphia The eight students were from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Joe Geiger was the only student from Delaware County to win this prestigious award. Joe was nominated for the award by Ms. Martha Harper, Safety Patrol sponsor for the Prospect Park School. The members of the Prospect Park Police Department congratulate Joe on his award. At a recent Delaware County Council Meeting, Chief Mills and Officer Engel were recognized by the United States Postal Service for their actions during the tragic shooting of Theresa Ebinger last year. In the February 7, 2001 issue of Town Talk, Sergeant John Saddic and Interboro Senior High Student, Robert Benigni were featured in a front page article. Mr. Benigni shadowed Sergeant Saddic for a day to see if he would be interested in police work after his graduation from Interboro Senior High School next year. At the February 13, 2001 meeting of Prospect Park Borough Council, Officer Edmund Kienzle was presented with a plaque for completing 25 years as a full-time patrolman for Prospect Park. The council chambers contained an overflowing crowd with over 30 family members and friends in attendance. A reception was held for Ed at the Trieste Restaurant after the presentation.
